These images are linked by notions of location, locality, distance and identity.
Behind the works is a meditation on belonging and ways that a personal experience of place generates sensations of knowing intimacy, or more prosaically; how we commender bits of the world that end up creating the geographies of our emotional interior. This terrain encompasses ideas about home alongside themes of wilderness, directing the series to be both more diaristic and diverse than other aspects of my folio to date.
Place is a platform for themes considered over a long period and it's coherence depends on a range of exterior references including generic forms of landscape painting and the locative mapping in GPS technologies. Overall, the series explores the desire to take visual possession of territories while highlighting the work of imaginative construction that allows us to locate our sense of place in images, even when we are elsewhere.
